The work of the vine in winter

We carried out in November 2013 a first hilling (method which consists in covering the vine of ground in order to protect the vine of the first frosts and to smother the herbs of the previous year).

The size started in January.

This is an essential step that conditions the good fruiting of the grapes.
We cut in simple guyot (to leave a single vine on the vine) to optimize the development of the vegetative cycle of the vine.

Then we remove the cut wood from the vine so as not to hinder the growth of the young shoots.

The other vineyards are currently waiting because we expect more favorable weather conditions.

Plantation of Chenin and Cabernet-Franc

We planted 2 new parcels : one in Chenin on a large clay-siliceous Chinon soil with limestone bottom and another in Cabernet-Franc on a soil of sand and clay-limestone.

In order to protect these new plants we put stakes and protective nets, in order to preserve the vine stocks and mechanical work of the vine.

It will be necessary to be patient and to wait 3 years before harvesting the first grapes.

Recovery of the domain of the Croix Marie

In October 2014, Marc Plouzeau took over the Domaine de la Croix Marie.

A vineyard of 12 ha mainly located on the southern slopes of Ligré (Commune of the Left Bank). This vineyard has an exceptional plot with 3 so-called highly rated locations: Clos des Roche St Paul, Les Lisons and La Chesnaie. These are 3 plots on complex soils of flint clay and clay-limestone.

Marc Plouzeau has the will to revive these soils and to vinify them in mono-parcellaire. In 2014, he made the vinification of this vineyard and the results promise to be promising.

VinaViva

Winemakers who respond to the invitation to participate in VINAVIVA follow the path
– organic farming,
– or that of bio-dynamism,
– or those of ‘natural’ wines,
– or their own way.

Everyone here guarantees demanding practices, with or without certification.
In the vineyard, with exception, no synthetic products, but work.
In the cellar, not – or very little – additives in the wine, but attention and patience.

No thundering statements, no com ‘plan but a commitment: Do what is said and say what is done.
It is necessary to leave to the vine growers the freedom of their expression in the respect of the earth, the grapes and the wine and also the amateurs that we are.
